Summary

Mangoes are delicious, but cutting them can be tricky. Follow these simple steps to cut a mango like a pro!

Ingredients

1 Mango

Directions

1. Grab a Ripe Mango

A ripe mango will have vibrant colors like red, yellow, or orange and will yield slightly to gentle pressure, similar to a ripe peach or avocado. If it feels hard, it’s not ready yet.

2. Stand it Up

Place the mango upright on a cutting board, stem side down.

3. Slice the Sides

Cut off the two broad sides of the mango, avoiding the pit in the center.

4. Score the Flesh

With the flesh side up, score the mango into a grid pattern, but don’t cut through the skin.

5. Flip and Scoop

Push the skin side up to invert the mango, making the cubes pop out. Scoop out the mango cubes with a spoon.

Notes

1. Glass Method

After cutting off the mango cheeks, place the edge of the mango flesh on the rim of a glass. Push down to separate the flesh from the skin. This method is quick and keeps things tidy.

2. Peeler Trick

Use a vegetable peeler to remove the skin before cutting. This can make it easier to handle and cut the mango into slices or cubes.

3. Crosshatch Shortcut

For a faster grid pattern, slice the mango cheeks and use a knife to make horizontal and vertical cuts without inverting the skin. Scoop out the cubes directly.
